“Katyangspaceship” comes from the word “kathang-isip”. “Katya” means pure, it is the name of an Immortal in Highlander: The Series. The “Spaceship” refers to fantasy …out of this world when you are out of your mind…a pigment of imagination or a realization?... sometimes mistakenly known as hallucination. Let’s explore both sides of the world…WELCOME ABOARD…

Bloody Thursday

June 3, 2011

I made a humanitarian deed yesterday, I donated my blood to a father of a colleague. It was something I used to do, as I recall this would be my 3rd time. I have found the freedom to do it without fear. It was awesome, I feel good about it. Eventhough I expect to feel woozy afterward. But I did not, maybe, my body got used to it.

They did a health screening at the beginning, checked my blood pressure, pulse, temperature. They poked my finger to check my hemoglobin to make sure I was healthy enough to donate. My finger was poked twice because they need to repeat the process of counting my hemoglobin, which was below average at that time and they told me I might faint once I had a blood transfusion. Well, the needle stick really wasn’t bad. Luckily, I had an average hemoglobin count the second time.

When its time to have my blood drawn, the Nurse told me not to move my arm anymore once he inserted the needle because I have a thread-like and moving veins. And I could feel the needle in my arm the whole time. It wasn’t painful like the initial needle stick, but just aggravating. It took about 20 minutes. I had a cousin who died leukemia and I know how important every drop is.

The thought of being able to help and save people’s lives everytime I donate blood makes me feel like a better person. Despite the distance, the long process, long wait and poor ventilation, it was one of the best times I ever had. It felt like I had a blood compact and makes our connection stronger…. and I am not referring to the patient.
