Project X

It was my second project and I didn’t know then what to talk about. I don’t have time to prepare one due to my hectic schedule these last few weeks. So I borrowed one entry from another blog and made a speech out of it. Its like putting my feet in somebody else’ shoes. I titled it “Diversion Road” since it refers to different diversion and I started with:

“People need diversion to get out of the normal routine. Some people would smoke as a quick get-away. A nicotine shot to take off the edge from their anxieties.  Others would rather go to a watering hole and drown the blues away.  Some may prefer to get exercise such as running, badminton, aerobics, boxing, or working out in a gym to break out from the monotony of their daily work schedule. The techy pips of the new generation would delve into surfing, texting, or downloading God knows what from the internet as their own form of diversion. A lot of the city-rat-dwellers would just opt  to skip out of town just to get away from it all.

Others also find money from those diversions. Like the cosmopolitan crowd would pick up their SLR cameras and start hitting their shutters as their form of diversion. And the next thing you know, they are already earning money from their projects like weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and other events. Reportedly, there is a high demand for freelance photographers in the advertising and marketing industries.

Some diversions literally end up giving you a bang! Just the way others’ like it, a series of loud bangs to stimulate the heart.  They make shots as part of their diversions. I am not referring to some kind of drugs. We are talking here about gun shots…target shooting. Imagine what a .45 caliber bullet traveling at a sub-sonic rate of 1,800 feet per second can do to flesh. that’s just them and their twisted diversion. We all need a quick-fix. It is a little bit expensive, you got to pay for the firing range fee of about 300-500 pesos if you are not a member of a gun club and have about 50-100 shots for a 10-15 pesos each bullet. Some are really  encouraged to get a grip of their wrist and try their hands on guns. They are enjoying the experience and the feel of metal on their hands. Personally, I dont think they will make money out of it…unless some gangster would hire them.

Everyone is so busy these days.  Most of the time we get wrapped up with work and think that we can’t really take a break. However, it is often our breaks that  help us keep to perspective  and to refocus on what we want. For me, sometimes I think of a solution to a problem after I do my diversion.  Seems we just need to re-boot our brain cells by doing our preferred diversions and we are back on the right track again.

Others may think that their work may be something they had prepared in college, and that’s all to it. But they are ignoring other things that they are also enjoy doing or have potentials in line with their passions which can be a part of their diversion. There are many pursuits that we don’t know we can take up to stimulate our minds whether we are looking for a new hobby or are just plain bored. Just think of the things you would love doing on a daily basis and can even turn into a full-fledged career.

Try to observe the little things you do when you’re not working; what you’re thinking in the morning before leaving to work, what you automatically do when a burst of inspiration hits you. Hidden among them could possibly be your life’s passion, whether or not they’re related to your work.

Whatever it is you find as a diversion, go for it. A diversion serves as a temporary respite from all the stress and angst.  You tend to think things through after you are finished with your  diversionary tactics.”

I made that talk for 5 minutes and 52 seconds. Not bad, we were given 6-7 minutes. My evaluator commented that the piece is very good but I should be focusing more on personal experience. Oh crap! I don’t feel like sharing my personal experiences. That’s for you to know and for me to keep. I want to remain a mystery ha ha ha J. My voice daw is so soft considering I was delivering so strong message. Well, that’s me, I might be soft from the outside but strong in the inside. The commentator even asked me if I want to join the National Defense. An ice breaker…funny. By the way, thanks for that piece.
